The three most popular methods to protect nuts and bolts from corrosion are:

Coated Nuts and Bolts
Users can purchase nuts and bolts that have corrosion preventing properties. Since these coatings are applied at the factory they are subject to damage when shipped, handled, and assembled. Compromised nuts and bolts will continue to deteriorate from that point on, reducing the long-term performance of these assets. Due to this “once unnoticed problem” more users are adopting our caps to lengthen the life-time of these fasteners. They are simple to apply, economical, and proven over time, and it is easy to see which nuts and bolts are not protected… they are the ones without the caps.
Stainless steel is considered by many to be the best method of solving corrosion problems. Experts agree that stainless doesn’t mean stain proof. The Achilles heel of stainless fasteners is the thread location. Depending on the environment, this area is the most vulnerable and protecting it with Sap-Seal caps is the fiscally responsible thing to do.

A large percentage of our corrosion prevention caps find their way onto pipe flanges. At some point, these locations require maintenance and/or repair.
Recently, a painting contractor advised us that he had a unique situation which required him to sandblast the flanges and the general area. The fasteners were Fluoropolymer and the concern was that this treatment would most likely damage the expensive coating on the nuts and bolts. Once this expensive coating was compromised they would be at risk to corrode. One picture shows the installation prior to treatment. The other picture shows one side of the flange blasted and the other waiting to be treated. The caps remain in place and when maintenance is done the same caps will remain since they are reusable. The life of the fasteners has now been extended indefinitely.
